Browser Extensions
Browser extensions can make torrenting more convenient by integrating directly with your torrent client, improving your searching experience, and blocking malicious content.
Torrent Client Integration
These extensions add a context menu or button to magnet links and .torrent files, sending them directly to your running torrent client instead of prompting the OS.
Torrent Control
- Browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Edge
- GitHub: github.com/Manzana-js/torrent-control
- Supports: qBittorrent, Transmission, Deluge, Flood, Tixati, ruTorrent
Torrent Control adds a popup when you click a magnet link, letting you choose which client to send it to and override the download path. Useful if you run multiple clients or a remote seedbox.
Setup: Install the extension, open its options, and enter your torrent client's web UI URL and credentials. For qBittorrent: http://localhost:8080.
Transmission Remote for Chrome / Firefox
For Transmission users, the official Transmission Remote add-on lets you send magnets directly to a local or remote Transmission daemon.
Privacy & Safety
uBlock Origin
- Browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari
- Website: ublockorigin.com
The most effective ad and tracker blocker available. Essential for visiting public torrent sites, which often run aggressive ad networks. Use the default filter lists plus EasyPrivacy.
CanaryMail / HTTPS Everywhere
Most major torrent sites now serve over HTTPS. If a site's HTTP version redirects oddly, check that you're on the correct domain — phishing copies of popular tracker sites are common.
Search & Discovery
Torrent Search Engine
Some extensions add a right-click "Search for torrent" option that queries multiple trackers at once. However, Magnetz already aggregates multiple sources in one search, so browser-based multi-search tools are less necessary.
Recommended Extension Stack
For most users:
- uBlock Origin — always, no exceptions
- Torrent Control — if you want one-click "send to client" from magnet links
That's it. Keep your extension list short to reduce attack surface.
TIP
You don't need a dedicated "torrent search" extension. Magnetz provides unified search across multiple sources with a single URL.
